Field and web, the same data
Monitoring animal welfare means regularly collecting data next to the animals, then analysing it to decide which actions to take.
In the field, your teams use the Animal Welfare Monitor app to record assessments, observations, notes and photos, on phone or tablet. At the office, they prepare data collection, organise the work and analyse the results in the web version. Field and web share the same data: what is entered in the field is available on the web, with no double entry.
Data is hosted in Europe, GDPR-compliant, and remains the property of the facility.
Animal Welfare Monitor: collect data in the field, even offline
Your teams take the app into enclosures, treatment rooms or poolside, on phone and tablet, on Android or Apple, in six languages:
- Assessments and observations
Carry out the rapid assessment, species-specific questionnaires, focal observations and scans, right next to the animals.
- Offline
Work without a network: questionnaires, observations, notes, photos and measurements stay stored on the device, then are sent once the connection is back.
- Enrichment
Track an enrichment item from start to finish, in the Progress offer: installation in the enclosure, restocking, removal, then assessment of the animals' response or of whether objectives were met, right after installation or later.
- Notes and photos
Report an observation to the right people. A note, with a photo or video, on an individual, an enclosure, a sector or a group; you choose who is informed, including the Akongo team, whose replies appear in the app.
- Resources
Review a behaviour before or during an observation: ethograms, with descriptions, photos and videos, and questionnaires can be consulted in the app.
Animal Welfare Monitor: organise monitoring, analyse results
On a computer, the web version brings together the data collected by the team and is used both to prepare the work and to analyse it:
- Data collection campaigns
Prepare fieldwork: you define the questionnaires, focal observations and scans to carry out, the animals involved and the observers; the app picks them up in the field.
- Results analysis
Compare two periods or two groups: charts, tables, heat maps and sociograms, at individual, group or enclosure level.
- Individuals and groups
Keep each animal's record and each group's composition up to date. Animals are imported from ZIMS (Species360), with no double entry.
- Enrichment
Manage the enrichment programme, in the Progress offer: catalogue, installation calendar by enclosure, and analysis of diversity, frequency and objectives.
- Team coordination
Organise each sector's day, with the Digital Sector Logbook programme: tasks, sector information and daily reports.
Cameras to complement the team's observations
Akongo provides connected cameras to observe what the team cannot see for itself:
- Flexible installation
Battery-powered cameras require no construction work to install and can be moved as the project requires.
- Live video feed
Images are available in real time.
- Outside working hours
They show the animals' activity at night and when the team is not on site.
- Video analysis
On some research projects, artificial intelligence algorithms help process the recordings.
Sensors to document the animals' environment
Sensors provide objective data on the conditions the animals live in:

Temperature, humidity, light and noise level.
