Scientific support for laboratories and animal facilities

Our team of ethologists and veterinarians carries out ethology and animal welfare studies with laboratories and companies, from the literature review to scientific writing. Studies carried out following a 3Rs approach, by an approved research organisation.

Animal welfare and the 3Rs, at the heart of research

The welfare of animals used for scientific purposes and the application of the 3Rs are now pillars of research. Taking animal welfare into account is no longer only an ethical obligation: it helps improve scientific practice.

The three Rs: replacement, reduction and refinement
  • Replacement

Replace animal studies with other methods.

  • Reduction

As many trials as necessary, as few as possible.

  • Refinement

Keep the stress of the animals studied to a minimum.

An approach applied to your projects

Our team supports you with in-depth studies on these topics, taking into account current knowledge and standards in animal welfare: setting up protocols, monitoring practices, detailed analysis of results. The aim is for each project to contribute to the refinement of practices, by limiting the impact on animals and increasing the benefits for research.

Animal Welfare Monitor

A dedicated version for research animal facilities

Animal Welfare Monitor offers a version specifically designed for research animal facilities. Already used daily in several facilities, it supports teams in monitoring animal welfare and organising their work.

Record observations, monitor your animals and coordinate your team’s actions in one tool. From data entry in the facility to analysis on the web, everyone has the information they need to maintain continuity of care and monitoring.

Support at every stage of your research projects

Our team supports you in carrying out your research projects, in particular those related to animal welfare. It provides the methodology, the monitoring and the data analysis:

  1. Literature review

The state of knowledge on your research question.

  2. Experimental protocols

Designed and set up for your study.

  3. Data collection

    In your facilities.

  4. Data analysis

    Including video analysis of behaviours.

  5. Statistical tests

Chosen and carried out according to your data.

  6. Scientific writing

The written report of the study and its results.

The aim is to help you take concrete action, showcase your initiatives and give them visibility and impact, both within your organisation and with the scientific community. Study topics vary (e.g. impact of enrichment, methods for acclimatising animals, comparison of animal management methods).

Approved research organisation and French Research Tax Credit

The Akongo research consultancy is approved as a research organisation by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. A French company that commissions a research service in ethology or animal welfare from us can therefore benefit from the French Research Tax Credit (Crédit d'Impôt Recherche, CIR) for the expenses incurred.

We provide tools to measure the time your teams spend on the different research projects. We can also help you with your tax credit claim.
