Ethology and animal welfare training for zoos and laboratories
Ethology, welfare assessment, enrichment, training, enclosure design: catalogue or tailor-made courses, at your organisation or in Nantes.
Team training, for the benefit of animal welfare
In many European countries, there is neither an official, recognised initial qualification nor continuing professional training for zookeepers. In France, for example, initial training is offered by both public and private institutions, and its content can vary from one institution to another; continuing training remains sporadic.
Akongo offers professional training to zoo and laboratory teams. The courses cover species knowledge and animal welfare, from theory to practice.

Two formats: in-house or multi-organisation
Depending on your needs, the course is for your team alone or brings together professionals from several organisations:
In-house, tailor-made
A course built for your team (e.g. ethology, species management, cross-functional skills), at your organisation (zoo, laboratory, educational farm) or on our premises.
Multi-organisation, from the catalogue
A catalogue course, open to professionals from several organisations, on our premises in Nantes or at a venue provided by Akongo.
Our training approach
Each course follows the same stages, from the initial questionnaire to the final review:
- 1
Identify needs
Before the course, each participant fills in a questionnaire to specify their level, expectations and needs.
- 2
Adapt the content
Our team of trainers builds the course around the participants, with the aim of making it accessible to all.
- 3
Alternate theory and practice
Theory lessons, practical workshops and experience sharing, followed by an assessment of what has been learnt.
- 4
Collect feedback
At the end of the course, each participant fills in a satisfaction questionnaire. Their feedback is used to improve our courses.
