A common method, adapted to each species

Akongo's assessment protocol is based on the Five Domains model and on an adaptation of the Welfare Quality® method to zoo species, described in a scientific publication (Romain et al., 2026). The method is the same from one facility to another: assessments are standardised, and therefore comparable.

Questions remain factual and descriptive. Each questionnaire combines questions common to all species with questions specific to the order, the family, then the species: the answers offered are not the same for a cheetah, a giraffe or a lion. Images and videos accompany the questions.
