Claiming that your animals are doing well is no longer enough. Visitors, accreditations, and authorities expect evidence. The Rapid Welfare Assessment Grid gives you an objective, repeatable, and time-comparable score.
It is based on four recognised categories: nutrition, housing, health, and behaviour. Each category groups precise criteria, scored in a standardised way, to obtain an overall score out of 100.
It is the first step of your welfare monitoring: a field tool, usable by keepers directly at the enclosure edge, without complex prior training. In 5 minutes, you get an overview, spot the species to watch, and prioritise your actions.
Co-developed in the field
Born from a research project with Branféré Park
A true barometer of animal welfare, the tool was co-created at the initiative of the Parc animalier et botanique de Branféré. The protocol was designed in the field with the zoological teams, then tested and refined alongside the keepers.

A structured assessment around four dimensions
Nutrition
Body condition, water access, quality and diversity of the diet. Verify that the nutritional needs of each species are met.
Housing
Available space, substrate, shelters, temperature, habitat enrichment. Does the environment meet the species' needs?
Health
Injuries, parasites, clinical signs, veterinary protocols. Detect problems before they worsen.
Behaviour
Stereotypies, social interactions, expressed natural behaviours. Welfare also depends on behavioural balance.
