A food refusal in the morning. An unusual interaction between two individuals. A damaged fence in an enclosure. Every day, keepers notice details in the field that also matter to the vet, nutrition, the technical team or management. Passed on verbally or written in a notebook, some of these details end up being lost.
Animal Welfare Monitor lets you record these observations as they happen, with a photo or video, and notify the people concerned directly. Each note is attached to the individual, enclosure, group or sector it concerns, and can also be found on the web.
Exchanges stay attached to the observation: even several months later, you can find what was reported, and what was replied.
Recording an observation as it happens
From the record of an individual, an enclosure, a group or a sector, a note can be written at any time, without waiting for the end of the day:
- A photo or a video — taken on the spot or chosen from the phone's gallery (video of 30 seconds maximum).
- Categories to keep track — health, feeding, reproduction, training, social, enrichment or other.
- Attached to its context — the note stays linked to the individual, enclosure, group or sector concerned, and appears on its record, on mobile and on the web.
- During data collection too — the rapid assessment accepts a photo, a video or a note for each question, and a comment can conclude a focal observation or a questionnaire.
- Without a network — notes and their photos are kept on the phone and sent once the connection is back; a video, however, can only be sent with a network.

Notifying the right people, finding the replies
When you create a note, you choose who should be informed:
- A notification by role — keeper, management, vet, nutrition, technician or zoological: the people with that role in the sector receive the note by email, with a direct link.
- Replies attached to the note — from the web version, a colleague replies, specifying in what capacity (vet, nutrition…); the author of the note finds the reply in the app's Messages section.
- The field and the office together — notes entered on the phone appear on the web, where the sector's record gathers them and lets you filter them by type or by notified role.

Filling in the daily report together
When a sector uses the shared daily report, several keepers complete the same report, each from their own phone:
- Everyone's answers — each contribution is displayed to colleagues as soon as it is sent, and everyone can edit their own.
- Differences flagged — when two answers differ, the value is marked “to be decided”; one person chooses the value to keep, with a note if needed.
- The day's activity — a tab traces the answers, the choices made and the notes added to the report.
- Offline — an answer entered without a network stays waiting to be sent and joins the report once the connection is back.

With the Akongo team
Passing context on to Akongo's ethologists
The app also keeps a link between the field and the Akongo team:
- A reply from the Akongo team — the Akongo team can reply to a note; its reply appears in the Messages section, with the original note.
- A comment at the end of data collection — at the end of a focal observation or a questionnaire, a comment passes on context to Akongo's ethologists, or reports an anomaly.
- Visit reports — when the Akongo team works on site (optional support), the validated report of each visit can be viewed by the whole park team, from the record of the group concerned.
With Akongo's support, offered as an option, the context of observations can thus reach the team between two visits.
